Minister of Finance J.J. Saffa Seals 50MW Solar Power Agreement With World Bank Group

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance, Hon Jacob Jusu Saffa today 11th October 2018 signed with the World Bank International Finance Corporation an Advisory Agreement paving way for work to commence the installation of 50MW Solar plant in Sierra Leone.

It all started at the African Development Bank Annual meetings in Busan, South Korea in May this year when Minister Saffa presented the case of urgent need of President Bio to provide affordable, reliable and sustainable electricity to the people of Sierra Leone.

Knowing for his positive dynamism, Minister expressed his Government to deliver on the election mandate. He said, without electricity the flagship project of Free Quality Education success will be limited. JJ said hospitals, schools, water facilities and businesses cannot grow without affordable electricity. He therefore appealed to the Bank to expedite the project preparation and implementation.

The Bank’s vice president reiterated their commitment to expeditiously process the project and indicted that with smooth flow, they can deliver the 50MW in 18-24 months.

The project, which will cost around 40 million dollars, will have an estimated tariff of less than 8 cents of US dollars.
