The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) has proposed Le 20.074.8 Billion for expenditure and budget for the Fiscal Year 2021.
This request was made on Tuesday 6th September 2020 during the ongoing FY 2021 budget process at the Ministry of Finance Main Conference Hall in Freetown.
According to the MoPED Development Secretary Mr. Peter Sam-Kpakra, the Ministry’s primary responsibility is to provide strategic direction to the state and coordinate national development policy towards effective and sustainable socio-economic transformation and development of Sierra Leone.
He said the Ministry also promotes sustainable growth and development through planning, monitoring, and resource mobilization for comprehensive and equitable national development.
He said to effectively coordinate the development activities of the government such a budget is needed.
He said last year their budget was tied to the Ministry of Finance as a result only about Le 13Bn was made available to them, noting that now that they are having a separate budget they intend to undertake more activities.
He said the Ministry is presently constraints with office accommodation, inadequate capacity for district planning, and inadequate budget, noting that they hope to address these in the FY 2021.
The Ministry’s key deliverables for FY 2021 are a Mid-term review of Sierra Leone’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) (2019-2023), sixteen districts Development Coordination Committees and National Secretariat established, 3rd Voluntary Review Report on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation in Sierra Leone produced and presented at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) New York, among others.
